Welcome to my very first blog

Updated: Oct 8, 2023

Good morning. This is the very first blog post so I am going to tell you a little about myself.

My name is Sandra Falconer and I am a retired teacher living in the north-east of England. I love retirement. For the first time in my life, I have time to pursue a multitude of interests. How did I ever have time to go to work? I have done so much in the last few years, but since I had to give up my rather large allotment, I have been able to spend more time on writing.

My work takes place on a broad canvas. Much, but not all of it, reflects my love of nature, history and social issues. I have been published online and I am a regular contributor to the Joy Club blog. I was shortlisted in the Beaconlit Flash Fiction 2023 competition with my short story, ‘Only a fool messes with Meg Martin’.

Since this is very much an ‘about me’ day, today's poem is 'Do you think that you know me’. It was prompted by a pet hate. We want to know what job the people we meet do, or did. It gives us a starting point into what sort of person they are, but it is also a trap. We are all so much more.
